Reclaimed Railway SLeepers

Reclaimed railway sleepers have become very popular on gardening programmes recently.   With very little thought & effort, rustic looking garden features can be created.   Our reclaimed railway sleepers are very good quality, however, as with all timber, they may contain slight shakes (slight splitting of the grain) and some edges could be slightly rounded.   This adds to the character of the finished feature.   All re-claimed used sleepers have at sometime been creosoted (see warning).

USES:  • Steps • Fencing • Raised Beds • Retaining Walls • Kerbing & Edging, etc... •

Reclaimed Railway Sleepers

ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES!
All creosoted railway sleepers can continue to be used safely with some exceptions and guidelines.   They should not be used in children's play areas, or for toys, garden furniture, picnic tables or inside buildings.   Creosoted sleepers should not be used where there is a risk of frequent skin contact, or where they may come into direct contact with foodstuffs.

 

New Untreated Hardwood Green Oak Sleepers

These sleepers are new (unused) green oak hardwood.   They are immensely strong and are not treated with any preservative, since being oak, they do not require it.   These can also develop shakes (slight splitting of the grain) which is a natural attractive feature of oak.   As these sleepers are new and untreated, there are no restrictions on their use in the home or garden.

New Untreated Hardwood Green Oak Sleepers

 

New Untreated Pine Sleepers

Also being new, these sleepers offer the same uses as the New green oak sleepers.   Being softwood, it is recommended that they are treated with a relevant indoor or outdoor wood preservative.
