Spent Mushroom Compost

This cheap by-product of the mushroom industry is recycled by us into a high fertility mulch for flower beds and borders. It is very useful on heavy clay soils due to its lime content, which is added to aid the growing of mushrooms. DO NOT use on ericaceous planted areas, such as heathers, azaleas, and rhododendrons, as they hate lime. Available in bags, or locally in loose loads.

Cocoa Shell Mulch
Cocoa Shell Mulch is the market leader in the decorative weed suppressing mulch market. It is regularly recommended by garden presenters on radio and television and also by feature writers for gardening books and magazines. Cocoa Shell Mulch is spread on flower beds and borders to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
	Cocoa Shell Mulch Attractive copper colour which contrasts beautifully with the greenery of growing plants. Excellent weed suppressant Moisture retentive Very economical when purchased from Tommy Topsoil.
Once spread on the soil and watered, Cocoa Shell Mulch gels into a sticky mat below the surface and becomes excellent if left undisturbed. The surface mulch remains a very attractive coppery colour and looks great even in a new border with sparse planting. Cocoa Shell can cost up to 50% more when purchased through some DIY and garden centres.

Bark Mulches
Tommy Topsoil bark products are screened to conform with British standards BS5698/7188 and are suitable for use as a weed suppressing mulch and as a safety medium for children's play areas.
	Hardwood Chips Being hardwood, these chips are the perfect solution to making a hard wearing, rustic looking path. They are also used for temporary roads, bridle paths and arenas. They are widely used in children's play areas and provide a clean, attractive and long lasting surface, for all the above uses. Particle size: 5-35mm. British standards BS5698/7188 - Play area approved
	Ornamental Bark If appearances are important, then this is the product to use. It can be used as a playground cover, or as a highly decorative weed suppressing and moisture retentive mulch for beds and borders. It is produced from high quality pine and conifer bark. It is screened to contain only a minimum of white wood. Particle size: 15-100mm British standards BS5698/7188 - Play area approved

Composted Bark *(Peat substitute)*
	This fine composted bark product is screened from pine and conifer trees. It has been high temperature composted to break down the fibres to a find friable, which releases the most wonderful woodland aroma. Composted bark, although low fertility when dug into heavy soils it will create the physical characteristics required to sustain good organic plant growth.
